Does this sound familiar?
Saying yes is easy. Living with it is harder.
The automatic yes
Someone asks for something and "yes" is out before you've had a chance to think. An hour later you're wondering how you agreed to it.
The guilt
You finally say no to something perfectly reasonable, and the guilt sits with you all evening, as if you'd done something wrong.
The resentment
You're the one everyone leans on. You don't mind helping, honestly. But lately there's a prickle of resentment, and then you feel guilty about that too.
The tiredness
You're tired in a way that sleep doesn't quite fix, because your time keeps going to everyone else's plans.
The replaying
You say no, then lie awake going over it. Was I rude? Should I message them? Maybe I'll just do it after all.
Not knowing what to say
You'd like to say no kindly, but in the moment the words won't come. So you over-explain, apologise three times, or give in.
If you nodded along, nothing is wrong with you. Saying yes easily is usually a sign that you care, and that somewhere along the way you learned that keeping people happy kept life calm. That made sense once. It may just be costing you more than it should now.
What changes
Give from choice, not from fear
The Kind No won't ask you to become hard, cold or "unbothered". It helps you say yes when you mean it, and a warm, clear no when you don't. Over 21 days, one small step at a time, you'll practise:
Noticing the three-second yes before it happens, and the body signals that come with it
Pausing before you answer, with a sentence ready so you never have to decide on the spot
Separating guilt from responsibility, so you stop carrying what was never yours
Saying a short, kind no without a long explanation
Finding the smaller yes when you'd like to give something, but not everything
Holding steady when someone pushes back
Looking after yourself afterwards, so the replaying doesn't pull you back into yes
By Day 21 you'll have your own pause phrase, scripts in your own words for family, work, friends and money, and a simple plan to keep going. How far you take it is up to you. This is practice, not a promise of a particular result.
Every day has a full written lesson of about 900 to 1,000 words (a 5 to 7 minute read), four ready-to-use phrases, one small practice and a matching workbook page.

What's inside
Everything you get
Every week opens with its theme and its seven days.
01 · The heart of the course
The Kind No Lessons: 3 modules, 21 in-depth lessons
Each lesson gives you a warm opening and the core idea, with the why behind it; one or two everyday examples; four ready-to-use phrases you can use the same day; the common places people get stuck; one small practice; and a key takeaway.
There's also a short Welcome lesson and a Closing lesson, so 23 lessons in all. Read them online as course pages, or download them as one 73-page A4 PDF.
Each lesson has a matching workbook page for that day's practice and reflection.
02 · Workbook
The Kind No Workbook: 37 pages
An A4 PDF to print, or to fill in on your phone, tablet or computer with a free app. Inside: a simple self-check (reflection only, no score or label), your over-giving map, 21 daily pages, three weekly check-ins, a two-page scripts library, your Kind No plan, a closing page and a support page.
The scripts library: 25 scripts and 4 kind words for yourself, grouped by situation.
03 · Scripts
Words ready before you need them
Every day lesson has four phrases (84 across the course), and the workbook's scripts library gathers 29 more by situation: buying time, warm and clear, family, work, friends, money and favours, the smaller yes, when they push back, asking for what you need, and kind words for yourself.
Your Kind No plan: the page you'll keep coming back to.
04 · Your plan
A personal Kind No plan
On Day 21 you bring it all together: one pause phrase, one boundary to keep practising for the next month, one true yes to protect, your "after the no" care plan and a note to yourself for a hard day.
05 · Daily nudges
A short email each morning
Each morning at 07:00 a short email from me reminds you of the day's lesson, names the small practice and points you to the workbook page. It takes a minute to read, and it keeps you going on busy days.
06 · Yours to keep
Download the Lessons PDF and the Workbook and they're yours, to come back to whenever an old pattern shows up again. No deadline and no falling behind.
From the outside, kindness and pleasing can look exactly the same. Both involve helping, giving and saying yes. The difference is on the inside, in what's driving them.

Is it right for you?
Who it's for, and who it isn't for
It's for you if you're…
Anyone, of any age, background, nationality or belief, who wants to feel less stretched and more like themselves. Maybe you're:
the "reliable one" in your family, or the friend everyone calls
a professional, employee or business owner whose evenings keep disappearing
a student, a retiree, a carer, or someone starting out in your first job
someone who'd like to stay kind, and simply stop saying yes out of fear
It suits you if you like to learn by reading and writing, at your own pace, in about 15 to 20 minutes a day.
It isn't for…
Anyone in crisis, or needing treatment. This is a self-help and coaching-style course, not therapy or medical care. If you're going through a crisis, or a relationship feels unsafe, please reach out for professional or emergency support first (numbers below). I'd also be glad to talk on a free discovery call about what kind of support might suit you.
Anyone looking for videos or audio. The Kind No is text-only. There's no audio and no video.
Anyone hoping to become hard or unbothered. This course is about staying kind while saying no.

About me
Hi, I'm Elizabeth
I'm Elizabeth Holland, an Inner Shift coach, hypnotherapist and psychosocial support practitioner. I've spent more than 10 years helping people find calm and make meaningful inner shifts. I also spent seven years as a Lifeline volunteer, and I'm completing my Bachelor of Social Science in Counselling & Psychology at SACAP. I'm also a writer, which is part of why this course comes to you in words, worksheets and quiet moments rather than videos.
Much of what's in The Kind No comes from conversations I've had with people over many years, and from my own life. It's warm, unhurried and practical, the way I work in sessions.
Here's what's usually happening. You've done something new, and your mind and body aren't used to it yet. The old rule, keep everyone happy, is sounding the alarm. It doesn't mean you made a mistake. It means you stepped outside the old pattern.

How much time does it take?
About 15 to 20 minutes a day: 5 to 7 minutes to read the lesson, a small practice you can fit into an ordinary day, and a few minutes with your workbook.

You can't really fall behind. The lessons and workbook are yours to keep, so go at whatever pace suits you. Read ahead, repeat a week, or stay with one lesson for a few days.
